Day 4: Discovering God’s Purpose for Your Life
By Kyle Garner, Vice-President, TIB The Independent BankersBank,
If you’re like most men, you spend a lot of your time searching for your purpose in life. When you were a child, you probably had a good idea what you wanted to be when you grew up – fireman, doctor, professional athlete, president of the United States. As you got older, life happened. You had to get a real job. You got married and started a family. Maybe you moved to an unfamiliar place. The demands of life started pressing in and creating unexpected priorities. All of sudden you’re 30, 40, 50 years old wondering if you are making a difference anymore. Now you are frustrated and wondering what IS your purpose in life. Maybe you do have purpose in life, but you’re not sure if it matches God’s purpose. Here are some indicators that maybe you aren’t living God’s purpose.
- You lack real joy and excitement in life.
- Life isn’t fulfilling anymore.
- You are blatantly living in sin.
Maybe it’s time to start searching again as if we were a child. What is your passion in life? What gives you energy? What are you willing to sacrifice for? Here are a few things you can do to help you discover your life’s purpose:
- Determine what you’re truly passionate about. What are willing to sacrifice for?
- What are your God-given gifts? Spend time listing out your gifts, take a spiritual gifts quiz, or ask a friend.
- Spend time alone and do some heart searching.
- Be intentional in your prayer life and actually listen to what God might be telling you.
There’s more to the story though. There’s much more than what you do to discovering God’s purpose for your life. You need to know God’s truths about His plan for you.
You are a perfect child of God. I John 3:1- See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!
You have the perfect tools. Galatians 5:22-23- But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
You are in the perfect place. Matthew 5:14- You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
With these truths in mind, go and discover God’s perfect purpose for your life.
